NEW LONDON, Conn. - After suffering their first defeat of the season yesterday the Coast Guard women's basketball team wasted little time putting another tally up in the win column with a 75-52 victory over visiting Curry on Sunday afternoon. The victory marks the third in a row for Coast Guard (8-1) against Curry (5-4) and moves the Bears to 8-5 all-time against the Colonels.

After a back and forth affair early on that saw the Bears with a 15-11 lead eight minutes into the first half, they would close the half by outscoring the Colonels 22-11 the rest of the way to build a 15-point advantage by halftime. Senior Brittney Zimmerman capped of the first half by stealing an inbounds pass and laying a shot in to beat the buzzer as Coast Guard headed into the half with a 37-22 edge.

Zimmerman scored 15 (9-13 shooting, 6-8 from three) of her game-high 24 points in the first half on 6 of 7 shooting from the field, including 3 of 4 from beyond the arc. The six three-pointers by Zimmerman were a Coast Guard career-high.

Coast Guard shot 40.6 percent (26-64) from the field (10 of 20 from three-point range) for the game while Curry hit on just 27.5 percent of their shots (14-51) including a 4 of 10 effort from beyond the arc in the contest who hit three key three-pointers in a row to turn a 16-point edge to a 25-point advantage with about six minutes to play in the game.

Three other players also finished in double-figures for the Bears as sophomore Torie Sutherland and senior Kaitlin Ward (8 rebounds) each netted 12 and junior Alexi Howland added 10 off the bench for Coast Guard.

Junior Kylie Beltz scored a team-best 12 for Curry and junior Samantha Corcoran pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds in the loss.

Dani Knox grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds as the Bears hung with the taller Colonels, being out-rebounded just 41-39. (Recap courtesy of USCGA Sports Information)
