Women's Basketball Posts Convincing 69-56 Road Win at Johnson & Wales

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Kylie Beltz (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) scored a game-high 20 points and added five assists, helping Curry to a 69-56 win over Johnson & Wales in a non-conference contest at the Wildcat Center on Saturday afternoon. With the loss JWU falls to 1-3 on the year while Curry improves to 2-1 for the season.

JWU fell to an early eight-point deficit after a jumper by junior Christina Deiorio (Stoughton, Mass.) with 12:52 remaining put Curry up 16-8. The Wildcats cut the lead to one, 16-15, on a three-pointer by junior Kaitlin Kenney (Branford, Conn.) with 9:24 left in the first half. The Colonels had their largest lead of the half, 38-23, after a lay-up by sophomore Kerry White (Windham, N.H.) with 2:01 remaining. Curry took the 15-point advantage into the locker room at halftime.

The Colonels increased their lead to 17 on a lay-up by Ashley Assarian (Chicopee, Mass.) just 52 seconds into the second half, making the score 40-23. JWU responded with a 22-6 run of its own and cut the lead to 46-45 on a three-pointer by DiCocco with 13:01 remaining. The visiting Colonels regained the double-digit advantage when a jumper by junior Jeanette Fallon (Nashua, N.H.) made the score 56-46 with 9:30 remaining. The Wildcats couldn't close the gap down the stretch, however as Curry led by as many as 15 en route to the 69-56 victory.

Beltz went 12-for-14 from the charity stripe, while Deiorio (16 points) went a perfect 6-for-6 from the field, including a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc. Sophomore Shannon Griffith (West Hartford, Conn.) recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game high 14 rebounds in the Colonels' victory.

Junior D'Ana Rolle (Gardner, Mass.) scored a team-high 18 points. Junior Natalie DiCocco (Media, Pa.) added 13 points and two assists for the Wildcats, while senior Jenna Juron (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) chipped in with 11 points and two steals.
