Women's Basketball Stretches Win Streak to Three After 58-47 Victory at CCC Rival Gordon
WENHAM, Mass. — In Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action today at Gordon’s Bennett Athletic Center, the Colonels of Curry College marched to a 58-47 win over the host Fighting Scots to improve to 5-1 overall, 2-0 in conference on the season. The loss drops the Scots to 2-3 overall, 0-2 in league play.

Shooting 67 percent as a team from behind the arc, the Colonels were led by Samantha Corcoran (So./Hampton, N.H.) with 16 points, eight rebounds, and four assists and Ashley Assarian (Jr./Chicopee, Mass.) with 12 points and four rebounds.

After a slow start for both teams in the opening 12 minutes, Assarian drained a three to blow the game open for the Colonels and start a 12-2 run, putting them up 22-12 with 4:28 to go before the break. That lead fluctuated slightly as the Scots fought to stay in the game, but Curry denied the comeback efforts to head into the locker room with a 28-19 advantage.

The second half looked hopeful for Gordon after a well-timed three from Abby Biggar (So./Beverly, Mass.) put the Scots within five, 39-34, with just over 10 minutes to play. That proved to be as close as they would get, though, as the Colonels stretched their lead to as many as 16 before closing out the afternoon with the 11-point victory.

Biggar paced the Scots' effort with 15 points, five boards, and three steals while Brooke Kratche (So./Chagrin Falls, Ohio) contributed 11 points and six boards. Teammate Lauren Kranyak (Jr./Locust Grove, Va.) also chipped in 12 rebounds, eight points, and three steals and Skylar Bareford (Jr./Stonington, Conn.) added nine points and three assists.

Corcoran and Assarian were supported in the win by Jeanette Fallon (So./Nashua, N.H.) and Carolyn Huston (Sr./Melrose, N.Y.) with nine points apiece.

Curry takes to the court again Saturday, Dec. 8 at 1p.m. at home against non-conference Framingham State, while the Scots also take a break from CCC play to host Mount Ida on Thursday, Dec. 6 at 6p.m. (Game recap courtesy of Gordon Sports Information)
