Women's Basketball Season Ends with 76-48 CCC Quarterfinal Loss at Roger Williams
BRISTOL, R.I. – The second-seeded Roger Williams University Women’s Basketball team defeated the number seven seed Curry College, 76-48 in the quarterfinals of the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament Tuesday night.

The Hawks started out the first half with four quick three-pointers to take a 12-4 lead in the first five minutes. Kaitlyn Bovee (Berlin, Conn.) started off the run with two back-to-back threes, followed by threes from teammates Angelica Ariola (Prospect, Conn.) and Ari Renwick (Westwood, Mass.).

Curry kept battling back with a strong inside game from Samantha Corcoran (Hampton, N.H.), and Jeanette Fallon’s (Nashua, N.H.) ability to get to the foul line, cutting the deficit to 19-12 halfway through the first.

The Hawks continued hitting their shots from beyond the arc, with Bovee hitting her third of the half and Elizabeth Kilzi (Waverly, Pa.) trailing right behind with another three and an inside jump shot to put the lead at 26-13 with 9:27 to play in the half.

With 6:30 left to go in the first half, Lutz hit another three for the Hawks, stretching the lead to 13. The Hawks’ defense challenged Curry inside the paint and forced the Colonels to put up tough shots inside, allowing the Hawks to get the ball out quick and push it down the floor for fast-break opportunities.

Bovee showed her range yet again from beyond the arch and hit her fourth three of the game, followed by a strong inside move for two and a foul shot to put the lead at 38-17 with 3:25 left to go.

With 2:00 minutes left to go in the first half Curry moved to a full court press to try and get some momentum back, but the Hawks were able to break the pressure and get down the court for open jump shots, ending the first half ahead 40-23.

Both teams came out battling back and forth for the first half of the second, exchanging baskets putting the score at 49-29.

Renwick and Kilzi kept extending the Hawks’ lead, while the defense stood strong in the paint, grabbing rebounds and forcing Curry to take tough shots. Bovee helped stretch the lead yet again with her fifth three of the game with 10:47 left to go in the second, putting the Hawks lead at 55-29, forcing Curry to take a time out.

Alexandria Lanieri also came out strong in the second half for the Hawks, scoring all of her eight points in the period.
The Hawks’ 10-0 run ended with a strong inside move from Fallon. Curry went into a full court press again, trying to force the Hawks to turn the ball over, but the Hawks were too much for the Colonels.

Carolyn Houston (Melrose, N.Y.) kept battling back for Curry but the Hawks offense continued putting pressure on the Colonels defense, ending with a 76-48 win.

Bovee finished the game with 22 points, five rebounds, two steals and two assists. Lutz also had a strong game with 11 points, three rebounds and three assists. Kilzi added ten points and three assists.

Corcoran ended the game with a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds for Curry, while Houston followed with 12 points, three rebounds and three assists. Jeanette Fallon (Nashua, N.H.) and Kylie Beltz (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) each added 11 points.
