BRISTOL, R.I. – A subpar second-half shooting performance kept the Roger Williams University Women’s Basketball team from its fourth straight win, as the Hawks fell Thursday evening to Curry College, 69-50.

With the loss, the Hawks drop to 11-9 and 8-5 in Commonwealth Coast Conference play, while having their three-game win streak halted. Curry snaps a two-game skid and improves to 8-12 and 6-7 in CCC play.

After shooting 48.4% (15-31) from the field in the first half, the Hawks managed only 15 points in the second half, while hitting only seven of their 33 attempts (21.2%).

Curry College scored first on a layup by Carolyn Houston (Melrose, N.Y.). The Colonels would increase their lead over the first four minutes to 11-5 before, the Hawks came back and took the lead on a three-pointer by Kaitlyn Bovee (Berlin, Conn.). Her trey made it a 13-11 advantage, giving the Hawks a lead that they would hold on to over the rest of the half, ending the period with a 35-31 lead. 

The Colonels took a 36-35 lead within the first two minutes of the second half. Roger Williams would tie the game at 37 on a jumper by Abby Marsh (Manchester, Vt.) but three free throws by Hailey Rafferty (Worcester, Mass.) would put Curry back on top.

The Hawks would tally only four points over the next seven minutes as Curry built an 11-point lead. The Colonels maintained a double-digit lead over the final five minutes of the game towards the win.

Rafferty scored 18 points with eight boards to lead the Colonels, while Ashley Assarian (Chicopee, Mass.) added 16 points and five rebounds. Houston finished with nine points and seven boards.

Bovee led all scorers with 26 points, 21 of which came in the first half. Alexandra Lanieri (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) chipped in with eight points, four rebounds, and two assists. Lisa Lutz (Downers Grove, Ill.) and Hannah Pirez (Bolton, Mass.) contributed six points apiece.

Roger Williams will take on University of New England on the road this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. while Curry hosts Salve Regina at the same time. (Recap courtesy of RWU Sports Information)
