Softball Secures Fifth Straight Split

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Curry College softball team secured its fifth straight split, topping Roger Williams in the opener 6-5 before claiming the nightcap by a 3-2 final.

In the first game RWU fell behind by four runs in the first two innings. Curry scored on a single by Kiana Lloyd (Worcester, Mass.) and a throwing error in the first inning. In the second, Mikayla Lambert (Blackstone, Mass.) brought in two with a base hit.

Roger Williams tallied three runs in the fourth inning. Valerie Moran (Syosset, N.Y.) had an infield run-scoring single while Micaela Pohl (Middleboro, Mass.) scored two with her base hit.

Curry added runs in the sixth and seven, but the Hawks attempted a later rally. The Hawks got RBIs from Amanda Boutler (West Islip, N.Y.)  and Haley Ledbetter (Westerly, R.I.) and got the tying run in scoring position, but a pop-out to third gave Curry the win.

Lambert earned the win for Curry. She lasted six innings, allowing ten hits and five runs while striking out two. Jordan Perzan (Burlington, Conn.) finished 3-for-4 at the plate.

Rachel Wandzilak (West Islip, N.Y.) took the loss for Roger Williams. She lasted 5.2 innings, allowing eight hits and five runs while striking out four. Pohl went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead Roger Williams.

Curry opened with a 2-0 lead in the opening inning in the second game. Taylor Newcomb (Millville, Mass.) and Michaela Colleran (East Bridgewater, Mass.) picked up RBIs for the Colonels in the frame.

Boulter scored in the second on a misplay at first, followed by Tara Chatowsky (North Kingstown, R.I.) scoring in the third on an RBI double from Katrina Goria (Wyckoff, N.J.).

The 2-2 tie lasted until RWU's final at bat. Moran and Tara Chatowsky (North Kingstown, R.I.) had back-to-back base hits to begin the seventh. Alexis Romano (Shirley, N.Y.) bunted a single back to the pitcher, but her errant throw allowed Moran to score from home and give RWU the win.

Hailey Pretchel (Glenmont, N.Y.) earned her first win of the season, giving up two runs in seven innings with three strikeouts. Romano was 3-for-4 in the game with Olivia Mora (Windham, Maine) and Bella Malvinni (Westerly, R.I.) adding two hits apiece.

Rebecca Black (East Greenwich, R.I.) took the loss, giving up three runs in six innings. Jocelyn Dimond (Weare, N.H.) was 2-for-4 with a run.
