NEWPORT, R.I. – The Curry College softball team saw its season come to end on Thursday afternoon with a 4-3 loss to fourth seeded Endicott College in Game Eight of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament. The Gulls were eliminated by Roger Williams later in the day and end the season at 22-16 while the Colonels conclude the season with a 16-23 overall record.

Endicott got on the board in the bottom of the second frame, thanks to a one-run single by Hayley Arduini (Southington, Conn.) to score Jaime Hopgood (Warwick, R.I) to grab the early advantage. The Gulls added one later in the frame when Chrissy Gikas (Danvers, Mass.) singled to third base, which plated Arduini to go up 2-0.

Endicott increased its lead in the third by way of an Arduini double to right center. The two-bagger scored Hopgood to put the Gulls up 3-0.

Curry got on the scoreboard in the fourth frame, tallying one run to make it a two run ball game at 3-1. Carolyn Lynch (Ipswich, Mass.) singled through the left side to score Michaela Colleran (East Bridgewater, Mass.).

The Colonels continued the comeback in fifth as they tied the contest at three. Rachel Byrd (Hampstead, N.H.) knocked an RBI single up the middle to plate Mikayla Lambert (Blackstone, Mass.) and then Colleran would later reach on an error by Danielle Stratton (Agawam, Mass.). The error allowed Hanna Fleming (Clinton, Mass.) to score as Curry knotted the game at three.

Endicott broke the tie in the sixth when KK Palmerino (Glenmont, N.Y.) doubled to right center to plate Stratton as the Gulls grabbed the 4-3 advantage. That run proved to be the game winner as Endicott took the contest by the same 4-3 score.  

Jess Saluti (Braintree, Mass.) led Curry at the dish, going 3-for-4. Mikayla Korona (Bellingham, Mass.) and Lambert finished with two hits apiece for the Colonels. Hopgood, Arduini and Stratton paced Endicott with two hits each.

Mikaela Mallozzi (Shelton, Conn.) was credited the win in the circle. She went the final two and two thirds, giving up two hits and striking out three. Lambert picked up the loss, going the distance. She surrendered four runs on nine hits while striking out five and walking two.

With two losses apiece in the CCC Tournament, Curry and Endicott have both completed their seasons.
