Softball Earns Split in Florida, Defeating Nazareth & Falling To Marian (Wis.)

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Curry College softball team split their two games on Tuesday, defeating Nazareth, 4-0 before falling to Marian (Wis.) in the second game, 14-0. Curry now sits at 2-4 on the season.

GAME ONE

Curry struck first as they would get on the board in the second. Rachel Byrd (Hampstead, N.H.) got on base with a double and Jess Saluti (Braintree, Mass.) drove in Byrd to grab the 1-0 lead.

The Colonels added to their lead in the fifth when Kevi Oatway (East Hartford, Conn.) tripled to right field which sent in Mikayla Lambert (Blackstone, Mass.) and Mikayla Korona (Bellingham, Mass.)

Curry would get one more on the scoreboard in the sixth frame. Saluti opened the inning with a single to left and Michaela Colleran doubled to left to move Saluti to third. Carolyn Lynch (Ipswich, Mass.) then stepped to the plate and singled to center to send Saluti home.

Saluti went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and one run scored. Six other Colonels registered one hit apiece. Marissa Tortora (Rochester, N.Y.) and Ann Stull (Addison, N.Y.) recorded one hit each to close the offensive output for the Golden Flyers.

Lambert picked up the win in the circle, tossing a complete game shutout. She only gave up two hits and walked one. Madison Zies (Williamsville, N.Y.) was credited with the loss, throwing five and a third innings while giving up four runs on nine hits, striking out one and walking two.

GAME TWO

Marian (Wis.) used a 10 run third inning to fuel a 14-0 victory over Curry. The Colonels were limited to just one hit in the contest while giving up 12.

Erika Costa (Seekonk, Mass.) picked up the lone Curry hit while Ally Fox (Greenville, Wis.) and Olivia Hartley (Waterford, Wis.) paced the Sabres with two hits each. Eight other Marian (Wis.) players registered hits on the contest.

Paige Rauhut (McHenry, Ill.) picked up the victory in the circle, tossing four innings. She gave up no runs on one hit while striking out five and walking just one. Jordan Lizotte (Rehoboth, Mass.) was credited with the loss, giving up 10 runs on eight hits while walking two batters.

Curry will have the day off on Wednesday before returning to action against Nazareth and Castleton at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., respectively on Thursday.
