Softball Takes a Pair at League Rival Wentworth, 9-1 and 11-3

BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman April Adams (Burlington, Mass.) went 4-for-5 at the dish with three runs and a walk, as the Curry College Softball team topped Wentworth Institute of Technology in a Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Carr Diamond. The Colonels took the first game 9-1 (five innings) and won the second 11-3 (six innings).

The Colonels improve to 5-5 (2-0 CCC) while the Leopards drop to 0-12 (0-6 CCC).

Curry jumped on top in the opening inning by scoring three runs off two hits. The Colonels added a run in the third when senior Allie Carver (Marlborough, Mass.) singled to second base, scoring sophomore Marissa Bruno (Milford, Conn.). Five runs off three hits in the fourth put Curry up 9-0.

Wentworth scored its lone run in the bottom of the fifth when freshman left fielder Megan Berryman (Middleboro, Mass.) singled to left field, scoring junior Heather Pinkston (Concord, Calif.). The Leopards couldn't put together a comeback and fell 9-1 in the first.

Senior Taylor Ahearn (Salem, Mass.) earned the win for Curry, going four innings and giving up a hit and walk while striking out eight. Junior pitcher Siobhan Baker (South Portland, Maine) got the loss in her four innings of work.

The Colonels scored twice off two hits in the first to start things off in game two. Curry then piled on five runs off six hits in the second inning. Freshman Kevi Oatway (East Hartford, Conn.) homered to put her squad up 8-0 in the third. In the next inning, sophomore Kelly Duggan (Norwood, Mass.) hit a two-run home-run to left to make it 10-0 Curry.

The Leopards got on the board with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, with senior Liz Glavin (Ipswich, Mass.) hitting an RBI double and junior Karsyn Sawyer (Chatham, N.Y.) knocking in a run with a single. Senior Sam Curran (Quincy, Mass.) tripled to right to score a run to give Wentworth its third run.

Freshman Jordan Lizotte's (Rehoboth, Mass.) RBI double to left made the game 11-3.

Freshman Mikayla Lambert (Blackstone, Mass.) earned the win with her four innings of work, giving up four hits, two runs, while striking out two. Curran got the loss for the Leopards.

Curran finished with a pair of hits, a run, and a RBI. Sophomore right fielder Marina MacDonald-Soccorso (Avon, Conn.) had a pair of hits. Bruno had three hits, four runs, two RBI, and a walk.
