Softball Splits a Non-Conference Doubleheader Against Visiting UMass Boston

MILTON, Mass. – Curry College split a non-conference doubleheader against visiting UMass Boston Monday afternoon in Milton. The Colonels lost a hard-fought, nine-inning game 1, 3-2 but captured the second game, 6-4. Curry is now 22-14 overall. The Beacons are now 10-19 on their season.
 
GAME 1

UMass Boston took its first lead in the 4th inning broke on top in the first frame as Gia Raczkowski hit a sac fly to right field allowing Kaitlyn Morse to score.  The Colonels tied up the game in the 6th when Marissa Bruno homered to left field.

The game continued at 1-1 until the top of the 8th when the Beacons' Jillian Shepherd scored on a double by Lyndsey Capra. The Colonels rallied back again as Heather Carrier scored on a wild pitch.

UMass Boston took the lead for good in the top of the 9th when Raczkowski scored on a single to centerfield by Lauren Mitsiaris.

Junior Taylor Ahearn went the distance in the loss, dropping her record to 14-5. She allowed eight hits and no walks, and zero earned runs while striking out nine over nine innings. Michelle Zullo picked up the win for the visitors, tossing nine innings and surrendering six hits, three walks and one earned run. She fanned seven.

GAME 2

In the nightcap, the Beacons scored early with two runs in the second and single runs in the 4th and 5th to take a 4-0 lead. Curry pulled even with four runs in the bottom of the 5th. The key hits were a two-run double by Ariel LaRosa and a two-run single by Kaitlyn Maderios.  One inning later the Colonels scored what proved to be the game winning runs thanks to a two-run double by Amy Nolan.
 
McKenna Barlow picked up the win in relief to improve to 4-2.
