Softball Earns a Split Behind Another Gem From Ahearn

FORT MYERS, Fla. - On Day Two of their Spring Break trip to Florida, the Curry College Softball Team earned their second-consecutive split, losing to Wartburg 6-0 in the first game of the day, before bouncing back to defeat New Jersey City University, 6-1.

Junior Taylor Ahearn (Salem, Mass.) notched the victory for the Colonels (2-2) for the second day in a row. She followed up a complete-game, one-hitter against Nazareth on Monday with a complete-game four-hitter against NJCU. Ahearn has struck out 17 batters over two games.

In the loss to Wartburg, senior Jennifer Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.) was the tough-luck loser, as five Curry errors led to five unearned runs. Senior Paige Smigiel (Lisbon, Conn.) had the only multi-hit game for the Colonels.

Against NJCU, the two teams entered the top of the sixth in a 1-1 tie. Curry then plated four runs, three on RBI singles by Smigiel, senior Megan Flaherty (Medway, Mass.) and sophomore Amy Nolan (Norfolk, Mass.).

The Colonels resume play on Thursday in Fort Myers, taking on the College of Wooster at 9:00 a.m. and St. Mary's of Indiana at 1:00 p.m.
