Softball Tripped Up 3-1 by Western New England in CCC Tournament Game
BRISTOL, R.I. - Sixth-seeded Curry fell 3-1 to #3 Western New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Softball Tournament game played on Monday afternoon at Roger Williams University.

In the first game of the day, the Colonels and Golden Bears were locked in a pitchers’ duel early on. Lauren Zambrano (Wallingford, Conn.) struck out five batters in a row for the Golden Bears after a leadoff walk to start the game, while Curry’s Taylor Ahearn (Salem, Mass.) retired the first five of the contest.

Curry struck first in the fourth, beginning with a leadoff double by Ariel LaRosa (Saugus, Mass.). After being sacrificed over to third, she came in on a misplayed ball at first to give the Colonels a 1-0 lead.

Curry’s lead would not last long, as the Golden Bears plated three runs in the bottom of the inning. Western New England’s two-run lead held up, as Zambrano only allowed two baserunners over the final three innings to earn the win. She gave up only three hits while striking out 13.

Ahearn (8-8) took the loss for Curry. Heather Carrier (Scarborough, Maine) was 2-for-2, while LaRosa was 1-for-3 with a run.

In the elimination bracket on Thursday, Curry (23-17) will face #5 Salve Regina in a neutral-site game played at Gordon College. Start time is 2:30 p.m..
