Six Colonels Earn All-CCC Softball Honors

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Student-athletes from eight different institutions in the Commonwealth Coast Conference were represented on the 2013 All-CCC Softball Team, it was announced today by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye.  In addition to the all-conference team, winners of five major individual awards and the team sportsmanship award were also selected.

Curry College had six student-athletes named to the all-conference team. Sophomore 3B Ariel LaRosa, junior SS Megan Flaherty, and freshman OF Amy Nolan were named to the All-CCC Second Team. Sophomore P Taylor Ahearn, junior DP Kaitlyn Maderios, and junior UT Heather Carrier were named to the All-CCC Honorable Mention Team.

Roger Williams University senior Lauren Tierney was named CCC Player of the Year, Endicott College junior Nell O’Connor was picked as CCC Pitcher of the Year, Roger Williams freshman Veronica Alicea was chosen as CCC Rookie of the Year, University of New England’s Megan Gauger and Tierney were honored as CCC Senior Scholar Athletes of the Year, Roger Williams’ Joyce Maudie was honored as CCC Coach of the Year and Wentworth Institute of Technology was the recipient of the Team Sportsmanship Award.

Voting for the All-CCC team and each of the major awards was conducted among CCC head softball coaches.

Joining Alicea (2B), O’Connor, and Tierney (catcher) on the first team were pitcher Lauren Zambrano (Western New England), infielders Colleen Martin (1B, Endicott), Sam DiBella (3B, Endicott), Kelley Michael (SS, Endicott), outfielders Chelsea Boulrisse (Roger Williams), Maria Francese (Western New England), Byrne Katz (Endicott), and Amanda Vallante (University of New England), designated player Adrienne Chase (University of New England), and utility player Hannah Hill (Western New England).

Joining Gauger (1B) on the second team were pitchers Jen Cruver (Salve Regina) and Meghan Maliga (Roger Williams), infielders Krista Fales (C, Endicott), Jesse Bilafer (2B, Endicott), LaRosa ,Flaherty, outfielders Alexis Bukowski (Western New England), Taylor Messier (Roger Williams), Nolan, and Sara Nelson (Salve Regina), designated player Jocelyn Russo (Endicott), and utility player Meghan Bolano (University of New England).

Honorable mention selections include pitchers Ahearn, Abby Lambert (University of New England), and Kori Sorensen (Eastern Nazarene), infielders Grace Kucharski (C, Western New England), Jillian Quintana (1B, Salve Regina), Alana Peoples (1B, Roger Williams), Samantha Mulhern (2B, Western New England), Rachel Ryder (2B, Gordon), Sam Losano (3B, Eastern Nazarene), and Ali Muehlbronner (SS, Salve Regina), outfielders Allie Frazier (University of New England), Marissa Meenan (Gordon), and Kara Pepper (Gordon), designated players Maderios and Lauren Nicholson (Salve Regina) and utility players Kiersten Bieren (Gordon) and Carrier.
