ORLANDO, Fla. – The Curry College men's tennis team lost a 6-3 non-conference match to Brevard College on Tuesday at Lake Cane in Orlando. The win improves the Tornados to 2-5 overall while the Colonels fall to 0-3.

Brevard began the match with a 3-0 sweep of doubles action. Freshmen Jackson Ray (Asheville, N.C.) and Ethan McGee (Salisbury, N.C.) edged the Curry freshman pair of Isaiah Goldsmith (Mattapan, Mass.) and Andrew Barron (Needham, Mass.) by an 8-6 score at No. 1. Freshmen JaMarcus Walker (Seneca, S.C.) and Troy Broska (Toccoa, Ga.) topped freshmen Kevin Meade (Milton, Mass.) and Nicholas Bell (Haverhill, Mass.) by the same 8-6 score at No. 2. Freshmen Miles Schafer (Greenville, S.C.) and Brysen Hall (Thomasville, N.C.) won the No. 3 doubles point by default.

Curry responded by winning half of the singles points. Goldsmith defeated McGee at No. 1 singles McGee at No. 1 singles 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. Barron followed with the next point in a 6-2, 6-4 win over Ray at No. 2. Broska got by Meade in a third-set super tiebreak, 7-5, 5-7, 10-2. Bell and Schafer also went to a third-set super tiebreak with Bell coming out on top. He lost the first set 6-3 but rebounded for a 6-3 victory in the second set and a 12-10 tiebreak win. The Tornados won the final two points by default.

Curry will close out its southern swing against Illinois Wesleyan on Thursday, March 12 at 3:00 p.m. in Orlando, Fla.
