WENHAM, Mass. - The Curry College men's tennis team closed out regular season play with an 8-1 loss to Gordon College on Wednesday afternoon at the Brigham Complex.

The Fighting Scots won two of the three doubles matches and then took all six singles points to seal the victory. Gordon improved to 8-10 overall and 4-3 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play while the Colonels dropped to 4-14 overall and 2-5 in the league.

The second doubles duo of senior Kristopher Marineau (Auburn, N.H.) and freshman Patrick Monahan (Richland, Wash.) defeated the Curry duo of senior Dawson Stento (Wellesley Hills, Mass.) and Lorenzo Russo (Lynnfield, Mass.) by an 8-3 score. Sophomore Will Jeffreys (Parkton, Md.) and sophomore Richard Ryzi (Littleton, Mass.) made quick work of senior Daniel Ritucci (Middleboro, Mass.) and freshman Timothy O'Brien (Attleboro, Mass.), 8-1, at third doubles.

The Colonels salvaged the first doubles point as junior Aidan Roach (Norwell, Mass.) and senior Richie Hefler (Canton, Conn.) edged out senior Nathan Lookwhy (Westborough, Mass.) and junior Jonathan Frink (La Crescenta, Calif.), 8-7 (7-4).

Lesley won five singles matches in straight sets, with Marineau setting the tone at the No. 3 spot. He bested Hefler by finals of 6-0, 6-0. Lookwhy snuck by Roach in two close sets at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-4. Jeffreys also had a tight match with Russo at No. 4, winning by scores of 6-3, 6-4. Monahan and Ryzi won at the bottom two singles spots, dropping a combined five games.

The lone singles match to go the distance was at No. 2 between Stento and Frink. Frink controlled the first set, winning by a 6-2 final. Stento evened things up with a 6-4 set two victory. With the overall match decided, the two played a ten-point tiebreaker to decide it. Frink edged out Stento 10-6 in the tiebreaker to seal the 8-1 victory.

Curry has qualified for the upcoming CCC Tournament and will await the release of the pairings for the reveal of its next opponent. Gordon also qualified for the conference tournament and finished tied for third in the league, along with Roger Williams and Endicott.
