Men's Tennis Blanked By UMass Boston

MILTON, Mass. – UMass Boston defeated Curry College 9-0 in non-conference men's tennis play on Thursday afternoon at the Trent J. Scott '96 Tennis Courts.

The win lifts the Beacons' record to 6-4 overall, while the Colonels sink to 3-10 on the season.

In top doubles competition, UMass Boston freshman Nandish Shah (Ahmedabad, India) and sophomore Miguel Beltran (Ashland, Mass.) battled past Curry's tandem of junior Aidan Roach (Norwell, Mass.) and senior Richie Hefler (Canton, Conn.), 8-3. The Beacon combination of sophomore Alexander Comerchero (Brookline, Mass.) and junior Onkgopotse Mokoka (Pretoria, South Africa) captured number two doubles over senior Dawson Stento (Wellesley Hills, Mass.) and freshman Lorenzo Russo (Lynnfield, Mass.), 8-4. UMass Boston completed the sweep of doubles when senior Ray Platteel (Holbrook, Mass.) and freshman Roy Platteel (Holbrook, Mass.) made quick work of senior Daniel Ritucci (Middleboro, Mass.) and freshman Timothy O'Brien (Attleboro, Mass.), 8-0.

Shah gathered his second win of the day when he bested Roach in top singles action, 7-6, 3-6, 10-7. Beltran picked up the point at No. 2 singles, topping Stento (6-1, 6-3). Roy Platteel was able to fight past Hefler in number three singles, 7-5, 7-5. Comerchero, Ray Platteel, and senior Tin Tran (Saigon, Vietnam) collected the final three singles points to complete the 9-0 victory.

Curry will hit the road for a league match at Salve Regina University on Saturday, April 13 at noon. UMass Boston returns home to host Western Connecticut State University on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
