Men's Tennis Bested By UMass Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Curry College men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to UMass Dartmouth in non-league action on Wednesday afternoon at the UMD Courts. The victory moves the Corsairs to 1-3 overall while the Colonels fall to 0-6.

UMass Dartmouth began the match by securing all three points in doubles play. Senior Anthony Joseph (Acushnet, Mass.) and sophomore Tristin Viale (Westfield, Mass.) came away with an 8-4 win at the No. 1 spot over junior Aidan Roach (Norwell, Mass.) and senior Richie Hefler (Canton, Conn.). Sophomores Eli Brooks (Franklin, Mass.) and Baylen Harper (Leicester, Mass.) followed suit at No. 2 by an 8-5 final over senior Dawson Stento (Wellesley Hills, Mass.) and freshman Lorenzo Russo (Lynnfield, Mass.). The duo of sophomore Sean Nutter (Mattapoisett, Mass.) and freshman Kyle Noseworthy (Dartmouth, Mass.) helped the Corsairs complete the sweep with an 8-4 win at the No. 3 position over senior Daniel Ritucci (Middleboro, Mass.) and freshman Timothy O'Brien (Attleboro, Mass.).

UMass Dartmouth won four of the six singles matches to secure the victory. Harper, Joseph, Nutter, and Noseworthy all won in straight sets at the No. 3-6 positions, respectively.

Curry's lone highlights in singles play came from Roach and Stento, who secured their respective points at No.1 and No. 2 singles. Roach defeated Brooks 6-3, 6-0 while Stento edged Viale 6-3, 6-4.

Curry will next host Bridgewater State University on Wednesday, March 27 at 3:30 p.m. UMass Dartmouth will next play on Sunday, March 24 at home against Castleton at noon.
