Men's Tennis Falls to Wentworth, 8-1

WESTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team swept all three doubles flights and took five of six singles matches, including sweeping flights two through six, as the Leopards defeated Curry, 8-1, Wednesday night at the Regis College Tennis Courts.

Winners of two straight matches, the Leopards run their record to 5-7 overall and 2-4 in Commonwealth Coast Conference play while the Colonels fall to 1-15 (0-6).

Senior Seng Ly (Lynn, Mass.) and sophomore Alex Mularski (Auburn, Mass.) gave the hosts a 1-0 lead when they picked up an 8-3 win over junior Dawson Stento (Wellesley Hills, Mass.) and freshman Nicholas Piotrowski (Groveland, Mass.). Freshman Tristan Maus (Mansfield, Mass.) and Jarrett North (Roanoke, Texas) gave Wentworth a 2-0 lead with an 8-2 win over sophomore Zach Muller (Methuen, Mass.) and junior Daniel Ritucci (Middleboro, Mass.) before senior Jeff Tocco (Plymouth, Mass.) and freshman Tyler Hall (Framingham, Mass.) completed the sweep with a 9-8 (8-6) win at No. 1 over sophomore Aidan Roach (Norwell, Mass.) and junior Richie Hefler (Canton, Conn.).

Roach gave Curry its only point of the match when he defeated Tocco, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 and made it 3-1. Maus defeated Mueller, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5, setting the stage for Mularski's match-clinching 6-0, 6-2 win over Ritucci at No. 6.

Ly defeated Piotrowski at No. 4, 6-1, 6-1, Hall dropped the first set to Hefler at No. 2 (2-6) before rallying to win the next two sets, 6-4, 10-1, while North also climbed back from a deficit, dropping the opening set to Stento at No. 3, before winning 6-4 and 10-8.

Curry hosts Endicott on Saturday at noon while Wentworth is at Johnson & Wales on Thursday.
