Men's Tennis Stifles Becker To Record First Victory, 9-0

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season with a 9-0 victory over Becker College on Monday afternoon in non-conference action at the Big Nine Tennis Courts.

The Colonels (1-11 overall) had a clean sweep in doubles play with all three finishing with 8-0 scores.

The tightest singles match of the day came at the number four spot between Nicholas Piotrowski (Groveland, Mass.) and John Tomkowiak (Lindenhurst, Ill.). Piotrowski won the first set by a 6-0 final but Tomkowiak made the second set close before falling 6-3 in the second.

The rest of singles were dominant from Curry, dropping five total games in the remaining matches. Aidan Roach (Norwell, Mass.) blanked Thomas Lanphear (Manchester, Maine) at the top spot 6-0, 6-0. Dawson Stento (Wellesley Hills, Mass.) won at No. 2 by 6-1, 6-1 finals over Alex Kielczewski (Grand Prairie, Texas) while Richie Hefler (Canton, Conn.) got by Emmett Smith (Freeport, Maine) 6-0 and 6-2 at No. 3. Zach Muller (Methuen, Mass.) and Daniel Ritucci (Middleboro, Mass.) closed out the remaining singles spots to all post wins.

Curry will next play at home against Johnson & Wales on Thursday, April 12 at 3:30 p.m. Becker (1-5) travels to UMass.-Dartmouth on Thursday for a non-league matchup starting at 3:30 p.m.
