Men's Tennis Blanked By Western New England

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's tennis team fell to Western New England University by a 9-0 final on Sunday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Big Nine Tennis Courts. The Golden Bears move to 7-2 overall and 2-1 in the CCC while the Colonels slip to 0-11 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

After grabbing all three doubles points, Western New England won all six singles matches, all but one in straight sets. Luke Surawski (Wethersfield, Conn.) took down Dawson Stento (Wellesley Hills, Mass.) at the number two spot by finals of 6-1, 6-0 while Max Gordon (Middleton, Mass.) topped Richie Hefler (Canton, Mass.) by scores of 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3. Michael Tran (West Haven, Conn.) triumphed over Nicholas Piotrowski (Groveland, Mass.) 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 while Griffin Arnold (Meriden, Conn.) and Matt Russell (Auburn, Mass.) captured their points at No. 5 and 6, respectively.

Curry's Aidan Roach (Norwell, Mass.) was able to go the distance at the top singles spot with David Kalmer (Slingerlands, N.Y.). Roach won the first set 6-4 before falling in the second by a 6-2 final, and in a 10-point tiebreaker, Kalmer would take it 10-6.

Curry will welcome in Becker College for their next match on Monday, April 9 at 3:30 p.m. Western New England returns to the court on Tuesday, April 10 at Nichols College at 4:00 p.m.
