Gordon Sweeps Men's Tennis, 9-0

MILTON, Mass. – Gordon College came away with a 9-0 victory over Curry College on Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play at the Big Nine Courts. The victory pushes the Fighting Scots to 5-7 overall and 2-1 in the CCC while the Colonels fall to 0-10 overall and 0-2 in league play.

After sweeping through the doubles portion, Gordon carried the momentum into singles play and won all but one match in straight sets. Nathan Lookwhy (Westborough, Mass.) defeated Aidan Roach (Norwell, Mass.) at the top spot by finals of 6-0, 6-1 while Michael D'Antuono (Mapleville, R.I.) took care of Dawson Stento (Wellesley Hills, Mass.) by scores of 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2. Will Jeffreys (Parkton, Md.) earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Richie Hefler (Canton, Mass.) at No. 3 while Matt McEathron (Upton, Mass.) and Richard Ryzi (Littleton, Mass.) won at No. 4 and 6, respectively, dropping a combined two games.

Curry's Zach Muller (Methuen, Mass.) put up a fight at the No. 5 position before falling to Caven Bell (Long Valley, N.J.). Muller took the first set 6-4 before dropping the second by a 6-1 final, and in lieu of a third set, the two played a 10-point tiebreaker. Bell triumphed 10-3 in the tiebreaker to seal the sweep for the Fighting Scots.

Curry will next host Western New England University on Sunday, April 8 at 1:30 p.m. Gordon returns to action at home against Salve Regina on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
