Men's Tennis Closes Florida Action With Loss To Nichols, 7-2

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Curry College men's tennis team was topped by Nichols College on Friday morning by a 7-2 final to conclude their annual Spring Break trip to Florida.

Nichols picked up their second win in a row as they earned all three doubles points to start the match before taking four of six of the singles matches to seal the victory.

Brandon Stewart (Gainesville, Fla.) and Aidan Stuart (Orange, Conn.) cruised to an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles while Sean Nutter (Mattapoisett, Mass.) and Baylen Harper (Leicester, Mass.) won by an 8-2 final at No. 3. The battle at No. 2 doubles was heated, as the Bison team of Guilherme Barbosa (Bradenton, Fla.) and Dylan Lindsey (Northborough, Mass.) bested Richie Hefler (Canton, Conn.) and Nicholas Piotrowski (Groveland, Mass.) by a final of 8-5.

The most competitive singles match of the day came at the top spot as August Moeller (Hellerup, Denmark) and Aidan Roach (Norwell, Mass.) needed a third set super tiebreaker to settle things. Moeller took the first set 6-4, but Roach bounced back to secure the second 6-2, before Moeller captured the third set super tiebreak, 10-2.

Curry's first singles point came at the No. 5 spot courtesy of Zach Muller (Methuen, Mass.), who won the first set over Lindsey 6-3 and then took the second in a tiebreak, 7-6. The final singles point came from Samuel Pitts (Cohasset, Mass.), winning in straight sets (6-2, 7-6). However, the Bison dominated the remaining singles contests in straight sets, with Kirill Ivanov (Moskow, Russia) at No. 2, Stuart at No. 3, and Max Karger (Medfield, Mass.) at No. 4.

Curry will next host Johnson & Wales on Tuesday, March 20 at 3:30 p.m. Nichols returns to action at against Lawrence on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in Orlando.
