Colonels Fall To UNW and Belhaven on Spring Break Trip

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Curry College men's tennis team was swept by the University of Northwestern, 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action before being topped by Belhaven University in the nightcap, 7-2.

UNW made quick work of Curry in doubles play, allowing nine total games across the three matchups. CJ Lloyd (Shoreview, Minn.) and Landon Ridpath (St. Cloud, Minn.) won at No. 1 doubles, 8-2 with Joshua Kimball (Waseca, Minn.) and Cameron Fair (Sterling, Kan.) adding a win at No. 2 doubles by an 8-1 score. Davis Pfaff (Maple Grove, Minn.) and Colton Paskewitz (Browerville, Minn.) defeated Zach Muller (Methuen, Mass.) and Samuel Pitts (Cohasset, Mass.) at No. 3 doubles, 8-6.

In singles play, Fair and Paskewitz both picked up 6-1, 6-1 wins at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Lloyd defeated Aidan Roach (Norwell, Mass.) at No. 1 singles by identical 6-2, 6-2 set scores. Kimball took down Richie Hefler (Canton, Conn.) at No. 3 singles while Zach Muller (Methuen, Mass.) fell at No. 5 singles 6-4, 6-1. Ridpath took the No. 2 singles point 6-0, 6-1 over Dawson Stento (Wellesley Hills, Mass.) to complete the singles sweep for the Eagles.

Belhaven 7, Curry 2

The Colonels battled in the nightcap before falling to the Belhaven University Blazers by a 7-2 final. Belhaven got things started by taking two of the three doubles points. Joan Soler and Mauricio Gonzalez defeated Roach and Stento at No.1, 8-1. The second doubles duo of Hefler and Piotrowski took down Gulshan Bhatia and Rajit Rohaan by a close 8-6 decision. Yeves Ikuno and Owen Taylor gave Belhaven the 2-1 lead after doubles play with an 8-2 victory over Muller and Pitts at third doubles.

Soler captured the point at No. 1 singles over Roach, 6-2, 6-3. Gonzalez blanked Stento at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0. Hefler earned the point at No. 3 with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Tracy Hilaire. Rohaan only lost one game at fourth singles, topping Piotrowski 6-0, 6-1.  Ikuno blanked Muller at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0 while Taylor took the No. 6 singles point over Pitts, 6-0, 6-3.

Curry returns to the court on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. against Wooster.
