Colonels Fall to Salem State, 8-1

Salem, Mass. – The Colonels fell to Salem State on Tuesday afternoon with an 8-1 decision over. The Vikings improve to 2-2 on the year while the Colonels slide to 0-8.

Once again Salem State used strong doubles play to jump out to a 3-0 lead. John Didonato (Newbury, Mass.) and Conner Erickson (Hubbardston, Mass.) scored an 8-3 win over Toma Blatchford (Westmount, Quebec) and Richie Hefler (Canton, Conn.) in first doubles. David Dluznieski (Auburn, Mass.) and Chen Chen (Lawrence, Mass.) beat Michael Mathieu (Paxton, Mass.) and Daniel Ritucci (Middleboro, Mass.) 8-1 in second doubles while Luke Hodgkins (Winthrop, Mass.) and Kevin Lam (Salem, Mass.) secured the sweep with an 8-2 victory in third doubles.

Curry won their only point when Blatchford defeated Didonato, 6-2, 7-5 in first singles. Erickson led the charge from the second slot as he defeated Hefler, 6-2, 6-4 as the Vikings won the remaining five matches in straight sets. Chen beat Mathieu, 6-0, 6-1 while Lam and Hodgkins earned wins in fourth and fifth singles. Dluznieski won 6-0, 6-0 in sixth singles to help the Vikings to the win.  

Salem State goes to UMass Dartmouth on Saturday for a 1:00 PM match while Curry travels to Eastern Nazarene on Wednesday at 3:30 PM.
