Men's Tennis Captures Season Finale Over Visiting Newbury, 5-4

MILTON, Mass.  – The Curry College men's tennis team beat visiting Newbury College 5-4 Friday afternoon in Milton in the season finale for both squads. The Colonels finish their campaign at 1-13 overall while the Nighthawks wrap up their season at 4-7.

Junior Charlie Paltsios (Westford, Mass.) lost to junior Antonios Tran (Chelsea, Mass.), 6-2, 6-2, to start off the singles matches. Sophomore Nick Poulack (Amherst, N.H.) topped senior Joey Verdon (Catskill, N.Y.) 6-1, 6-3 at #2. In the third pairing, freshman Andrew Hegarty (East Islip, N.Y.) fell to senior Wayne Gethers (Cambridge, Mass.) in two tight sets:  7-6 (8-6) and 7-6 (7-1). Senior captain Joe Berger (Middleboro, Mass.) defeated freshman Alex Rodriguez (Hyde Park, Mass.) 6-1 and 7-5 in the #4 matchup. Newbury forfeited the final two singles matchups.

Paltsios and Poulack dropped the #1 doubles match to Tran and Gethers, 9-7. Junior captain Toma Blatchford (Westmount, Quebec) and senior Jonathon Schutzman (Bellmore, N.Y.) fell to the team of Verdon and Rodriguez, 8-4 at #2. The Nighthawks forfeited the last doubles match accounting for the 5-4 final.
