Men's Tennis Tripped Up 7-2 at Rhode Island College

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Brett Taggart (North Kingstown, RI) recorded a pair of victories as the Rhode Island College men's tennis team earned their first victory of the season by knocking off Curry, 7-2, at the RIC Tennis courts on Thursday afternoon.

The Anchormen (1-3) took two of the three points in doubles with Taggart and senior Brian Gil (North Providence, RI) taking a forfeit victory at No. 3 doubles while freshmen Josh Pimentel (Smithfield, RI) and Lee Tiberi (Smithfield, RI) topped Curry's (0-3) duo of freshman Andrew Hegarty (East Islip, NY) and senior Jonathon Schutzman (Bellmore, NY), 8-3, at No. 2 doubles. 

The Colonels earned their lone doubles point when junior Charlie Paltsios (Westford, MA) and sophomore Nick Poulack (Amherst, NH) topped junior Tim Holzinger (Foster, RI) and sophomore Seongkyeong Kim (North Providence, RI), 8-2 in the No. 1 pairing.

Holzinger fell to Paltsios at No. 1 singles (6-4, 4-6, 0-1 (10-6)) while Kim topped Poulack at the No. 2 flight (6-0, 1-6, 1-0 (10-8)).

Taggart topped Hegarty at No. 3 singles (6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-4)) while Pimentel topped Schutzman at the No. 4 flight (4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5)). 

Tiberi and Gil did not have opponents at the No. 5 and No. 6 slots respectively, which gave RIC the 7-2 victory. (Recap courtesy of RIC Sports Information)
