Men's Tennis Knocked Off by Visiting Gustavus Adolphus, 9-0

MILTON, Mass. – Visiting Gustavus Adolphus College blanked Curry, 9-0, in non-conference men's tennis action Tuesday afternoon in Milton. With the victory, the Gusties improve to 18-3 overall, while the Colonels fall to 0-8 on the season.

The visitors opened by sweeping all three doubles matches. Junior classmates Sam Hjelm (North Oaks, Minn.) and Colin Rieke (Rochester, Minn.) defeated sophomore Toma Blatchford (Montreal, Quebec) and freshman Valvel Temin (Swampscott, Mass.), 8-0, at #1; junior Chad Stearns (Coon Rapids, Minn.) and sophomore Colin Shea (Joliet, Ill.) took care of senior Nicholas Ironside (Wellesley, Mass.) and junior Eric Helberg (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), 8-0, at #2; and senior classmates Cody and Duncan Anderson (Maple Grove, Minn.) blanked senior Frank LaMotte (Chestertown, Md.) and freshman Cory Flax (Potomac, Md.) , 8-0, at #3.

Singles went the same way for Gustavus, with junior Matt Bettes (Burnsville, Minn.) outpacing Blatchford, 6-0, 6-1, at #1; junior Ben Halvorson (Englewood, Colo.) handling Temin, 6-0, 6-0, at #2; freshman Joakim Ekfeldt (Stockholm, Sweden) making quick work of senior Lucas Donaway (Foxboro, Mass.), 6-0, 6-2, at #3; junior Gavin Kulick (Independence, Minn.) putting away Hellberg, 6-0, 6-1, at #4; junior Nicholas Reiners (Cambridge, Minn.) blanking LaMotte, 6-0, 6-0, at #5; and sophomore Alex Smith (Chanhassen, Minn.) defeating Ironside, 6-0, 6-0, at #6.
