Men's Tennis Falls to Visiting Conference Foe Nichols, 7-2

MILTON, Mass. – Visiting Nichols posted a 7-2 decision over Curry in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's tennis action Tuesday afternoon in Milton. The #18 regionally-ranked Bison improved to 12-5 overall and 4-1 in CCC action while the Colonels dropped to 4-10 overall and 0-6 in league play.

Nichols cruised to three easy doubles wins. Justin DeLuca and David Drucker blanked Tyler Collins and Charlie Paltsios, 8-0, at #1. In the process, Drucker tied Steve Carella '12 for doubles wins in a career with 50. Brandon Roode (ranked #20 regionally) and Carlos De La Cruz knocked off Toma Blatchford and Rob Knight, 8-1, at #2. Finally, the duo of Paul Healy and Dan Roman handled Joe Berger and Eric Hellberg, 8-2, at #3.

The Bison appeared to be headed for a singles sweep as well, capturing the #1 - #4 matches in straight sets. DeLuca bested Blatchford, 6-0, 6-0, at #1; Drucker took care of Collins, 6-1, 6-0, at #2; Cam Lewis edged Paltsios, 7-5, 6-4, at #3; and Andrew Haas dispatched Berger, 7-5, 6-1, at #4.

But the hosts bounced back to capture the final two singles matches. Knight and Joseph Beasley split the first two sets at #5, before Knight ultimately prevailed, 6-2, 5-7, 10-6. Lucas Donaway notched Curry's easiest win of the day, a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Mathew Paulsen at #6.

Nichols resumes play on Thursday, hosting CCC rival Salve Regina at Assumption College at 4:00 p.m. The Colonels are off until Saturday when they travel to Endicott for CCC match starting at 12:00 p.m.
