Men's Tennis Edged 5-4 at CCC Rival Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. - After two close doubles defeats put the Seahawks in a 2-1 hole, Salve Regina University men's tennis (1-9; 1-3 CCC) climbed out of that hole winning four singles matches over visiting Curry College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.

Sophomore Mike Gallerani (Fairfield, Conn.) and freshman Khoa Nguyen (Haverhill, Mass.) turned in the first point of the day, winning 8-2 at third doubles.

The Colonels took the top two doubles points. Freshmen Toma Blatchford (Westmouth, Quebec) and Rob Knight (Port Jervis, N.Y.) won their last two games for an 8-6 score at second doubles over seniors Kenneth McCormack (Falmouth, Mass.) and Brian Sweeney(Waldoboro, Maine).

Senior Aaron Isch (Tolland, Conn.) and junior Colin Gunning (Norwell, Mass.) kept pace with the Curry top pair of Tyler Collins (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) and Charlie Paltsios (Westford, Mass.). The Colonels took the 2-1 edge into singles with a 9-7 triumph over the Seahawk duo.

Now onto singles - both teams picked up a point without dropping a game at first and second singles, respectively. Isch took care of business with a 6-0,6-0 score at the top spot for Salve Regina. Colonel freshman Blatchford won by the same score at second singles.

Salve Regina scored its decisive wins at 4-5-6 with Gunning, Nguyen, and Gallerani striking straight-set triumphs to clinch the win. (Recap courtesy of SRU Sports Information)
