Men's Tennis Tripped Up 7-2 by Visiting CCC Rival Wentworth
MILTON, Mass. – Visiting Wentworth defeated Curry, 7-2, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men’s tennis action Wednesday afternoon in Milton. The Leopards improve to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in league play, while the Colonels dip to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in CCC action.

Wentworth began the match by capturing two of three doubles points. The pair of Juan Rodriguez and Dave Filar easily handled Curry’s Tyler Collins and Toma Blatchford, 8-1, at #1. The duo of James Drum and Sean Murray needed a tiebreaker to defeat Charlie Paltsios and Rob Knight, 9-8 (7-3), at #2. The Colonels earned their only doubles point at #3, where Eric Hellberg and Joe Berger held off Tim Nguyen and Andy Chen, 8-6, at #3.

In singles, the Leopards notched three straight-set wins, with Rodriguez knocking off Collins, 6-2, 6-2, at #1; Filar sweeping Paltsios, 6-4, 6-0, at #3; and Nguyen besting Lucas Donaway, 6-4, 6-0, at #5. The remaining three singles matches were closely-contested affairs. Drum needed a second-set tiebreaker to down Blatchford, 6-2, 7-6 (7-1), at #2. Chen earned the visitor’s seventh point of the day by capturing a decisive third set against Berger, 7-6 (7-2), 2-6, 10-6, at #4. Curry picked up its lone singles' point at #6, where Knight outlasted Murray, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-7, in a three-set marathon.

Wentworth resumes play on Thursday traveling to Suffolk for a non-conference tilt at 5:30 p.m. Curry is off until April 2, when it travels to CCC rival Western New England for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
