Men’s Soccer Closes Season with Home CCC Contest

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team finished their season with a home match against Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent Western New England (WNE) University. After a 3-0 victory, the Golden Bears improve to 12-5-2 record overall with a 4-3-1 mark in conference play. The Colonels wrap up the year with a 2-15-1 tally and a 0-8-0 CCC record.

The opening minutes of the match were quiet, until Matt Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) converted a free kick from Bryan Doyle (Southington, Conn.), giving the visitors a 1-nil advantage. The junior's goal would be the only score of the first half, but as the second frame got underway, the WNE offense went back to work. In the 63rd minute, Charlie Argyle (Marshfield, Mass.) found the back of the net off an assist from Bryan Atimbo (Chicopee, Mass.), before Atimbo put in a goal of his own just six minutes later. Trailing by three scores, the Colonels looked to fight their way back into the match, but came up short as the Golden Bears locked up the CCC triumph.

The Colonels recorded seven shots, each of them coming from different players. Seth Blasingim (Draper, Utah) and Mitchell Forbes (Boxford, Mass.) registered the only two shots on goal for Curry. The Golden Bears were led by the six shots of Argyle, who also turned in a match-high four shots on goal. Dylan Husted (South Deerfield, Mass.) improves to 8-4-1 on the year after grabbing a pair of saves in the shutout, while Jan Bacerra (Chappaqua, N.Y., 0-6-1) tallied seven saves. Additionally, over the final 20 minutes, Dylan Griffin (Hornell, N.Y.) stopped the only three shots he saw in net for the Colonels.

The Golden Bears will look forward to a home match against the Bison of Nichols College in the first round of the CCC men's soccer championship tournament. The match between the #4 and #5 seeds will take place on Saturday, November 2. Start time is yet to be determined.
