Men’s Soccer Wraps up Road Schedule with CCC Defeat

BOSTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team dropped a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match on Saturday afternoon to the Wentworth Institute of Technology. After the defeat, the Colonels sit at 2-14-1 with a 0-7-0 record in the CCC. The Leopards improve to 9-6-2 overall with a league mark of 5-2-0.

The Leopards came out hot, taking three of the first four shots in the game, but came up empty. The Colonels had their chances, with a pair of early corner kicks, but the game remained scoreless through the first 32rd minutes of action. However, off a Wentworth corner kick, a header from Eddie Smith (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) found its way inside the left post, which gave the hosts a 1-0 advantage. John Dauphin (Yorba Linda, Calif.) earned as assist on the play. Jonathan Caldwell (East Weymouth, Mass.) looked to put in the equalizer for Curry, but Leopard goalie Robbie West (Weymouth, Mass.) punched away the shot, as the 1-0 score held to the half.

The Colonels looked to work their way back into the match, but in the 51st minute, a long Colonel pass back to goalie Jan Bacerra (Chappaqua, N.Y.) made its way past its target and doubled the Wentworth lead. Caldwell took the only Curry shot on goal in the second half, but came up dry as West completed his shutout with a 2-0 victory.

Caldwell and senior Claudio Orsini (Watertown, Conn.) topped Curry with three shots apiece, while Griffin Price (Allendale, N.J.) turned in a match-high seven for the Leopards. West improves to 7-6-2 with six saves, while his counterpart, Bacerra, moves to 0-5-1 despite collecting 13 saves.

The Colonels will close their 2019 schedule with a home match against Western New England University on Tuesday, October 29 at 4:00 p.m. The Leopards have now shut out their past three opponents and will look to keep the momentum going as they close their regular season with a road test versus Salve Regina at 3:00 p.m., also on Tuesday.
