MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team dropped a home match to UMass Boston on a rainy Wednesday evening by a score of 3-0. With the win, the Beacons improve to 8-2-2 while the Colonels sit at 2-10-1 on the year.

The Beacons took control of the match early, taking the first six shots of the match and converting in the eighth minute, as Nick Fontana (Marshfield, Mass.) gave the visitors a 1-0 edge with his fifth goal of the year. Yuran Teixeira (Praia, Cape Verde) earned the assist on the play. Claudio Orsini (Watertown, Conn.) managed the only shot of the half for Curry, but Jan Bacerra (Chappaqua, N.Y.) grabbed 10 saves in the frame to keep the deficit at just one heading into halftime.

Things got chippy out of the break, as six fouls were called in the first ten minutes of the second half, coming to a head when a minor scrum broke out near the Beacon goal. Three cards were assessed on the play, including a red card that put the Colonels down for the remainder of the match. In the 67^th minute, UMass Boston capitalized on their man advantage and doubled their lead as Yasser El Hasnaoui (Marrakesh, Morocco) put an unassisted score past Curry's freshman keeper. 14 minutes later, the lead became 3-nil, when Josh Madden (Milton, Mass.) found Nilton de Andrade (Fogo, Cape Verde) who put in his team-leading eighth goal of the season. The Colonels got a few looks at the net in the second frame, but came up empty as goalie Sandro van Kuijck (Nunspeet, Netherlands) completed the shutout.

De Andrade turned in a match-high 12 shots (six on goal) while Seth Blasingim (Draper, Utah) led the Colonels with a pair of shots. Kuijck earned his second win in as many starts with a single save. Bacerra (0-2-1) collected 14 saves in the losing effort. This is the second time in the past three matches Bacerra has turned in double-digit saves, while tonight stands as a team-high for the season.

The Colonels play again on Tuesday, October 15, as they travel to face a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent, the University of New England, at 6:30 p.m. The Beacons will also return to conference play, as they head to the University of Southern Maine for a Little East Conference (LEC) match on Wednesday, October 16 at 7:00 p.m.
