Men's Soccer Drops CCC Match at Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. - The Curry College men's soccer team fell in a 4-1 decision to Roger Williams on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Hawks improve to 6-2-2 with a 2-0-0 mark in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC). The Colonels now sit at 2-8-0 overall and 0-2-0 in league play.

The Colonels got the scoring started in the sixth minute as freshman Seth Blasingim (Draper, Utah) put one past Hawks goalie Edmund Geschickter (Brookline, Mass.) to put the guests up 1-0. The teams stayed quiet over the next 25 minutes, but with less than 10 minutes remaining in the first half, Javi Beltran (Fall River, Mass.) netted the equalizer for Roger Williams thanks to an assist from Jake Fitting (Bristol, R.I.). The hosts weren't done there, however, as Ryan Miller (Hillsdale, N.J.) gave the Hawks their first lead of the day just six minutes later as Beltran picked up his third point of the day, getting credited with the helper.

Curry entered the second half hoping to find an equalizer of their own, but Roger Williams picked up right where they left off, extending the lead to 3-1 in the 57th minute as Jack Wetzel (Northpoint, N.Y.) scored his second goal of the year. Jordan Lach (Norton, Mass.) and Colby Decker (Colchester, Conn.) notched assists on the play. The hosts locked up the victory with just 1:18 left in the match, as Andrew Kirschenbaum (Hamden, Conn.) found Miller, who scored his second goal of the day.

Richard Silva (Pompano Beach, Calif.) topped the Colonels with four shots (2 on goal) while goalie Paul DeMaio (North Andover, Mass.) collected eight saves. Michael Oliveira (Waterville, Maine) led the Hawks in shots with five, while Geschickter anchored the defense with three saves.

The Hawks return to action on Tuesday, October 1 for a non-conference tilt at Bridgewater State. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. The Colonels get back to work on Wednesday, October 2, as they travel to face Elms at 7:00 p.m.
