Men's Soccer Shutout in Road Contest

FRANKLIN, Mass. - The Curry College men's soccer team was defeated by the Bulldogs of Dean College on Sunday afternoon by a score of 4-0. With the win, Dean improves to 2-1-0 while the Colonels move to 1-3-0.

The Bulldogs got out early in this one, taking a 1-0 edge in the tenth minute. After making a save on a penalty kick in the seventh minute, Curry goalie Paul DeMaio (North Andover, Mass.) was beaten  the second time around, as Paulo Correia (Fogo, Cape Verde) stuck one past his left side. Dean doubled their lead 11 minutes later, as Liam Crowley (Taunton, Mass.) capitalized on a defensive mishap to make the score 2-0.  The deficit held to the intermission, but the Bulldogs were not done scoring.

As the second half got underway, the Colonels looked to claw their way back into the match. However, 13 minutes into the frame, Kyle Lameiras (Attleboro, Mass.) sent a perfect cross into the box and found Zeki Zai (Shaker Heights, Ohio) who capitalized and put a left-footer past DeMaio. Once again, 11 minutes later, Dean added to their lead, this time as Davonn Smith (Lowell, Mass.) found a streaking Correia, who netted his second score of the day. Curry strung together a few shots over the closing minutes of the match, but time ran out on their efforts, sealing the 4-0 victory in favor of the hosts.

Nolan Reimondo (Portland, Conn.) and Richard Silva (Pompano Beach, Calif.) each took three shots for the Colonels while DeMaio (1-3-0) collected a pair of saves. Correia recorded match-highs in shots (4), shots on goal (3) and goals (2) while teammates Lameiras and Smith tallied the only assists of the contest. Goalie Bryce Antoch (Cranston, R.I.) stopped all six shots which came his way and moves to 2-1-0 on the year.

The Bulldogs next match will be Wednesday, September 11 as they travel to face the Lyndon State Hornets at 2:00 p.m. Curry will also get back to action on Wednesday, as they play host to Becker College at 6:30 p.m.
