Men's Soccer Blanked By UNE, 2-0

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to the University of New England on Saturday night at Walter M. Katz Field on Homecoming and Family Weekend.

Callum Heaslewood (London, England) and Tanner Figueiredo (Marion, Mass.) each had tallies for the Nor'easters, who improved to 2-7-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC). The loss dropped the Colonels to 6-5-1 overall and 0-3-0 in the CCC on the season.

UNE got on the board in the 44th minute as Heaslewood was awarded a penalty shot after a foul in the box. He stepped up for the shot and put it past the outstretched gloves of Paul DeMaio (North Andover, Mass.) to put the Nor'easters up 1-0.

Figueiredo concluded the scoring in the 60th minute, capitalizing on a free kick opportunity as he headed it in with the assist going to Lee Esposito (Niskayuna, N.Y.). The tally gave the UNE some breathing room for the final minutes of the contest.

Curry held the advantage in shots (18-17), while the University of New England had the edge in shots on goal (8-4) and corner kicks (6-3). Nathan Delesdernier (Niantic, Conn.) faced four shots to claim his first win of the season. DeMaio finished with six saves in defeat.

Curry returns to conference play at Endicott on Tuesday, October 2 at 7:00 p.m.
