Men's Soccer Shuts Out Westfield State 3-0 in Non-Conference Action

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College Men's Soccer Team picked up a 3-0 non-conference shutout victory over visiting Westfield State University on Wednesday afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field. With the win, the Colonels improve to 6-3-1 while the Owls slip to 3-5.

Curry was first to get on the board 9:18 into the contest.  Senior Dave Stapleton (North Easton, Mass.) sent senior Ben Silvia (Dartmouth, Mass.) a pass from outside the 18-yard box.  Silvia collected the ball and one-timed it past the glove of Westfield's senior keeper Alex Kraver (West Springfield, Mass.).  The Colonels extended their lead to two after sophomore Brandon Rinaldi (Watertown, Conn.) netted an unassisted goal.  This was his first of two on the day.  Senior goalkeeper Adam DiBrina (Sudbury, Ontario) held the Owls scoreless make two stops.  Curry held a 9-5 advantage in shots through 45 minutes of play.

The Colonels tallied their final of the game at the 58:48 minute mark of the second period. The goal came off the foot of Rinaldi with a helper from senior Giancarlo Orsini (Watertown, Conn.).  Westfield got off just three shots, none landing on net, as Curry's defense was solid in the back field.  The Colonels led again in shots with six for a game total of 15 while the Owls had a game total of eight.

DiBrina earned the win in net for Curry making two saves.  Kraver was handed the loss for Westfield making five stops.

Curry returns to the field on Saturday when they travel to Gordon College for a Commonwealth Coast Conference match at 3:00 p.m.
