Men's Soccer Falls to Nichols College 1-0 in CCC Action

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team lost to visiting Nichols College, 1-0, in Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Friday night at the Walter M. Katz Field. With the loss, the Colonels overall record drops to 4-3-1 while they even their conference record at 1-1. With the win the Bison move to 5-3-1 on the season and 1-1 in the conference.

Nichols was on the attack for most of the first half, outshooting Curry 10-4.  The Bison got the lone goal on the night just 8:12 into the game.  The tally came off the foot of sophomore Zach Turcotte (Lowell, Mass.) who received a pass from classmate Chris Noga (Belchertown, Mass.). Noga sent Turcott the ball from outside the 18-yard box who collecting it and struck it into the upper left hand corner of the net.  The Colonels senior Ben Silvia (Dartmouth, Mass.) and junior Christian Mancini (Woodbury, Conn.) had a couple good chances to tie the match but Nichols junior goaltender Patrick Porpora (Westminster, Mass.) held them scoreless with two big saves. Curry's sophomore keeper Paul DeMaio (North Andover, Mass.) was solid between the pipes making seven stops through 45 minutes of play.

The Colonels led in shots in the second half with a 9-4 margin but Porpora came up with five saves to earn the shutout.  The Bison landed all four of their shots on net but DeMaio had another strong showing as he made all four stops allowing Nichols to finish on just one of their 16 total. Curry ended with 13 over 90 minutes.

Curry had four corners while Nichols had two.

The Colonels return to action on Sunday, September 24 when they host Anna Maria College in a 1:00 p.m. start. The Bison host CCC opponent Eastern Nazarene on Friday, September 29 at 7:00 p.m.
