MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team defeated visiting Maine Maritime, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Walter M. Katz Field. With the win, the Colonels improve to 3-3-1 on the season while the Mariners fall to 1-3-1 overall.

The teams battled each other throughout the first 45 minutes of play without a score.  The Colonels held a slight advantage in shots at 6-5.  The Mariners sophomore goalkeeper Joshua Reeks (Bedford, N.H.) stopped two of the shots he faced while Curry's freshman goalkeeper Mike Russo-Penta (Malden, Mass.) made three saves in net.  The Colonels also led in corner kicks at 5-1.

Curry came out strong in the second half netting three goals in the first 10 minutes of play.  The Colonels got scores from juniors Eric Miller (Hanover, Mass.) and Hunter Duval (Branford, Conn.) and senior Steven DePina (Stoughton, Mass.).  Maine Maritime finally got on the board with 18:37 left to play after an unassisted tally from freshman Matthew Carron (Scarborough, Maine).  The Mariners worked hard to find the back of the net for the remainder of the game but strong play between the pipes from Johnson held them to the lone goal.  Curry led with a 11-6 shot advantage and took five corner kicks while Maine Maritime had zero.

Russo-Penta made four saves in net earning the win. Reeks made seven stops in goal in the loss.

The Colonels return to action on Wednesday, September 21 when they host Johnson & Wales in a non-conference match at 6:30 p.m. The Mariners will return to action on Tuesday, September 20 when they travel to Thomas College for a 5:00 p.m. game start.
