Orsini Nets Game Winner in a 2-1 Overtime Thriller Against Visiting Emerson College

MILTON, Mass. - A goal from the foot of junior Giancarlo Orsini (Watertown, Conn.) in the 94th minute of play sealed Curry's' 2-1 non-conference overtime victory over the Emerson men's soccer team on Sunday afternoon at Katz Field.

With the win, Curry improves to 2-1 while Emerson falls to 0-2.

After four shot attempts to get on the board, Emerson was able to find the back of the net in the 42nd minute (41:56) on its fifth try thanks to an unassisted goal by senior Duncan Bochicchio (Los Angeles, Calif.). Freshman Matthew Hanks (Chester, N.J.) sent a corner kick to an open Bochicchio and put the Lions up 1-0 with three minutes remaining in the half.

However, Curry decided to join in the scoring mix. Junior Hunter Duval (Branford, Conn.) buried the equalizer a minute later and squared the game 1-all (42:24). Emerson attempted to give themselves the 2-1 cushion to close out the first half, but Bochucchio's shot went wide and the score remained 1-1 entering halftime.

In the 58th minute, a foul committed by Curry gave Emerson a penalty kick opportunity and a chance to take the lead. With Bochicchio at the line, his kick landed in the hands of Curry senior goalie Dan Johnson (Easton, Conn.) for the Lions could not capitalize.

Orsini took one last shot with 33 seconds left in regulation, but his attempt went wide and the game entered overtime.

The Lions held Curry to two shots in the second half and continued to hold the 12-7 shot advantage. It was Curry's last shot, however, that was the most important.

After Emerson received a yellow card two minutes into overtime, junior Ben Silvia (Dartmouth, Mass.) set up Orsini for the game-winning goal in the 94th minute and closed the book on Emerson with the 2-1 victory.

Curry returns to action on Wednesday, September 7 in a 5:15 game at Salem State.
