Men's Soccer Edged at CCC Rival Roger Williams 2-1 in Double Overtime

BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team escaped with a 2-1 double overtime win over Curry College Friday evening.

The victory gives Roger Williams back-to-back wins for the third time this season. Curry drops its fifth consecutive match and third straight by a 1-2 margin.

The Hawks' Sean Janson (Avon, Conn.) bombed a long shot from 60 feet out in the 22nd minute to get RWU on the board first, making it a 1-0 Hawk lead.

Curry's Kyle Henry (Danville, Calif.) answered back soon for the Colonels in the 28th minute. He was able to catch the Hawk defense off guard and drill a long shot of his own into the back of the net to tie the game at one apiece.

The Curry offense stayed busy in the half, outshooting RWU 12-4 but only able to manage one goal.

In the second half, the Hawk offense began to pick up as well, putting up nine shots compared to six for the Colonels. However, neither team were able to get the game winner, sending the contest to extra periods.

After a thrilling overtime which saw numerous chances for both teams to secure the win, it would not be until two minutes into the second OT period the saw the golden goal. Dan Kelly (Miller Place, N.Y.) came through for RWU with the winning score, converting off of a series of passes from Tyler Kuchenbecker (Wellesley, Mass.) and Rowan Hallahan (Old Lyme, Conn.).

Nick Nelson (Madison, Conn.) earned the win, making a career-high 12 saves in the contest. Dan Johnson (Easton, Conn.) stopped three shots in the loss.

Both teams will be home on Wednesday, with Roger Williams (6-7-1, 2-4-0) facing Nichols and Curry (10-6-0, 2-4-0 CCC) hosting Eastern Nazarene.  (Game Recap Courtesy of Roger Williams Sports Information)
