Men's Soccer Falls to CCC Rival Nichols College 1-0 in First Loss on the Season

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team lost to Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Nichols College, 1-0 on Saturday morning at the Walter M. Katz Field. With the win the Bison improve to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in the CCC.  The Colonels received their first loss of the season and fell to 9-1 overall and 2-1 in the CCC.

The teams battled each other to a scoreless half.  Nichols led by a slight margin in shots, 10-7, however only landed three on net.  Curry forced the Bison's goaltender Alex Geas (Somers, Conn.) to make seven stops as they landed all of their shots on goal.  Nichols also led with four corner kicks while Curry had none.  The Colonels' defense played strong as the ball seemed to be in their defensive zone for the majority of the 45 minutes.  The majority of the Bison's shots were from outside the 18-yard box.

The squads started the final stanza the same way they did the opening half. Both teams were looking for chances to get on the board first.  Nichols again held the advantage in shots for the first 25 minutes of play.  The Bison had eight with the Colonels netminder Dan Johnson (Easton, Conn.) coming up with two nice diving saves.  At the 20:27 minute mark Nichols scored the eventual game-winner. Tyler Brenner (Stuart, Fla.) received a cross from Felipe Schiller de Rezende (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and one-timed it into the low corner of the net.  Curry kept pressuring the Bison defense and Geas but couldn't get one past him.  The Colonels defender Ryan Madden (Milton, Mass.) took a shot from around the 20-yard line that was struck so hard but Geas made a diving stop to hold Curry without a score.

The Colonels finished with 19 shots and two corner kicks.  The Bison finished with 21 shots and five corner kicks.

Johnson made seven saves in net for the loss.  Geas made an impressive 15 stops in goal for the win.

Curry returns to action on Wednesday, September 30 when they host Westfield State in a 7:00 p.m. game start.  Nichols returns to action when they host Fitchburg State on September 30 in a 4:00 p.m. start.
