Men's Soccer Falls to CCC Foe Gordon College, 6-2

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team lost to Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Gordon College, 6-2, on Friday evening at the Walter M. Katz Field. The Colonels dropped to 8-7-1 overall and fell to 2-3 in the conference. The Fighting Scots improved to 12-3 overall and 5-1 in the CCC.

Sophomore Caleb Cole (Coatesville, Pa.) netted a hat-trick in just the first 45-minutes of play helping his team to a 4-1 half-time lead.  Cole scored 5:45 into the frame off a cross from senior Evan Crocker (Akron, Ohio).  The Colonels answered back just less than five minutes later to tie the game at one apiece.  Junior Richkaard Verrier (Milton, Mass.) tallied his squad's lone score of night after one-timing into the back off the net off a feed from senior Nicolas Chavez-Oramas (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.).  Cole regained his team's lead on an unassisted goal 25 minutes remaining in the half.  Two minutes later, freshman Nathan Bilbie (Shrewsbury, Pa.) tallied the Fighting Scots game-winner when freshman John Schwein (Garnet Valley, Pa.) sent him a through ball past two Curry defenders.  Bilbie went one-on-one with sophomore goaltender Dan Johnson (Easton, Conn.) and shot high over Johnson's head into the top right corner.  Gordon's' scoring frenzy wasn't over as they got on the board with their fourth at the 12:40 minute mark.  Cole earned his hat-trick and gave his team a 4-1 cushion heading into break off an assist from sophomore Aaron Terjanian (West Chester, Pa.).  The Colonels had eight chances throughout the frame but solid play between the pipes by the Fighting Scots sophomore goalkeeper Josh Spoonhour (Greencastle, Pa.) held Curry to just one goal.

The Colonels came out strong to start the second half, outshooting the Fighting Scots 4-0 over the first 20 minutes.  Curry however struggled to find the back of the net and Gordon capitalized.  Just three minutes apart, the Fighting Scots tallied their fifth and sixth goal.  Their fifth was on their first strike of frame.  The Colonels committed a foul around the 25-yard line.  Freshman Tim Andrassy (Hudson, Ohio) took the free kick and freshman Matt Jaeger (Ipswich, Mass.) headed the ball past Johnson.  Curry took two more shots, one that forced Spoonhour to make a diving kick save, before Gordon would net their final of the game.  With 16:07showing on the clock, Crocker ripped one from the top of the 18-yard box after a pass was sent by freshman Jerry Williams (Royersford, Pa.).  Following the goal, the Fighting Scots junior goalkeeper Bruce Gerberich (Fredericksburg, Pa.) replaced Spoonhour in net.  Gerberich made one stop before freshman Larry Janvier (Milton, Mass.) stuck one past him with senior Darren Smith (Newcastle, Del.) earning the assist.

Curry had a game total of 19 shots, 15 fouls and four corner kicks.  Gordon had a game total of 13 shots, eight fouls and one corner kick.  Both teams handed three yellow cards each. 

Johnson made two stops in net for the Colonels in the loss.  Spoonhour earned the win in goal for the Fighting Scots recording six saves in 73:53 minutes of play before giving way to Gerberich.  Gerberich had one save in 16:07 minutes in net.

Curry is next in action on Wednesday, October 22 when they travel to Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Endicott College in a 7:00 p.m. game start.  Gordon will host CCC opponent Eastern Nazarene also on Wednesday, October 22 in a 7:00 p.m. game time.
