Cotnoir Nets Three as Men's Soccer Dominates Becker, 9-1

LEICESTER, Mass. - Curry College defeated Becker College 9-1 in non-conference men's soccer action this afternoon at Alumni Field. The Colonels advance to 7-4-1 while the Hawks fall to 2-11.

The Colonels were first to get on the board five minutes into te game when junior Matt Cotnoir (Longmeadow, Mass.) capitalized off a long central feed from senior defender Samuel Babchuck (Bridgewater, Mass.). Five minutes later, freshman Ben Silvia (Dartmouth, Mass.) found the back of the Hawks net with a header from senior Nick Gilman's (Longmeadow, Mass.) corner kick. Gilman put the Colonels in front 3-0 the 11th minute, scoring off a penalty kick. Curry ended the half with a goal from freshman Dave Stapleton (Easton, Mass.), who carried the ball to net through the right flank off a pass from senior Darren Smith (Newcastle, Mass.).

The Hawks got on the board two minutes into the second half when senior captain Ryan Barry (N. Attleboro, Mass.) scored off a rebound from a Kyle Miller (Louisville, Ky.) shot.  Curry responded with five unanswered goals. Cotnoir and Gillman teamed up for three, while freshmen Mike McFarland (Dedham, Mass.) and Nate Swartz (N. Dighton, Mass.) tallied the remaining two for their first goals of the season.

Freshman keeper Karl Cameron (Jacksonville, Fla.) saved 16 shots on net for the Hawks.

Both teams are on the road this Saturday, October 11 for conference contests. Curry will travel to Eastern Nazarene at 6:30 p.m., while Becker hosts Daniel Webster College at 1:30 p.m. (Game Recap Courtesy of Becker College Sports Information)
