Men's Soccer Upended at CCC Rival Salve Regina, 4-0

NEWPORT, R.I. - Like lyrics to a song ... "Shu, L'Heureux, Demirgioglu" provided all the offense for Salve Regina University men's soccer as it shutout visiting Curry College, 4-0, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Reynolds Field.

Seniors Alec Shuman (Pompton Plains, N.J.), Devin L'Heureux (Litchfield, N.H.), and Issa Demirgioglu (Smithfield, R.I.) delighted the Fall Festival Weekend crowd with first-half goals. Shuman added his second of the game and third of the season in the third minute of the second half as Salve Regina improved to .500 overall and in the CCC (5-5-0; 2-2-0 CCC).

The first 30 minutes were scoreless until Shuman converted a pass from classmate Alex Wasilewski (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) at the 30:25 mark. Another senior, Zachary Kraft (Chapel Hill, N.C.), assisted on L'Heureux's goal at 35:25 before Demirgioglu capped off the first half scoring at 42:45 with another assist from Wasilewski.

Sophomore Steven Aston (Sherborn, Mass.) became the only non-senior to be involved in the scoring as he assisted on Shuman's second-half goal.

Daniel Stern (King's Park, N.Y.) made five saves to improve his record to 3-4-0 while his counterpart, Dan Johnson (Easton, Conn.) stopped five as well in his 90 minutes as goalkeeper.

With the win, Salve Regina snaps a two-match losing skid and extends Curry's (5-4-1; 1-3-0 CCC) losing streak to two.

The Seahawks embark on a season-long five-game road trip starting with a non-league match at Wesleyan University on Tuesday (7 p.m.). The Colonels host Lyndon State on Monday (4 p.m.). (Game Recap Courtesy of Salve Sports Information)
