Men's Soccer Blanked 3-0 by Visiting Johnson & Wales

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team lost to Johnson & Wales, 3-0, on Monday afternoon at the Walter M. Katz Field. The Colonels fell to 5-2 overall in the loss. The Wildcats improved to 5-2-1 on the season in the win.

Johnson & Wales came out strong to start the opening stanza.  The Wildcats first shot of the match came just 32 seconds in.  Senior Kyle Metz (St. James, N.Y.) ripped a shot that was blocked by a Curry defender.  Metz was awarded a corner kick following the blocked shot and team was able to get two more strikes on net at 1:05 and 1:55.  The Colonels' sophomore goaltender Dan Johnson (Easton, Conn.) was forced to make two tough stops to hold off an early goal.  The Colonel's had their first chance to get on the board at the 7:51 minute mark after Rolando Montero (Norwalk, Conn.) found a loose ball in front of the net but Johnson & Wales senior netminder Ryan Dzierzawski (Oakland, Mich.) made a nice diving save.  Over the next 14 minutes the Wildcats outshot the Colonels 5-3.  The fifth shot resulting in a Wildcat goal.  Senior Ray Durski (Monroe, N.J.) sent a pass from just outside the box to classmate O'Kyle Corridon (Selden, N.Y.) who one timed in past Johnson for his first of two tallies on the day.  Over the remainder of the half, Johnson & Wales had a slight advantage in shots over Curry, 3-1.  Johnson made four saves to keep the score at 1-0 heading into break while Dzierzawski made just two.

The Colonels looked to control the first ten minutes of the final frame as they had four shots with the Wildcats earning just one.  Junior Matt Cotnoir (Longmeadow, Mass.) took a blast inside the 18 that nearly went in as Dzierzawski bobbled the ball, but eventually made the save.  Curry's offense struggled for the remainder of regulation to find the back of the net taking eight strikes but landing only three on net.  Johnson & Wales looked to increase the 1-0 lead and did at the 58:25 minute mark.  Durski netted one off a through pass by Metz.  Corridon got his second to cap off the scoring for the day as he put in a shot from 10 yards out after a pass from sophomore Xavier Carty (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) with 7:39 left to play.

 Johnson made an impressive13 stops in net for the loss.  Dzierzawski earned the win in goal for Johnson & Wales recording five saves.

The Colonels will host Springfield College in a non-conference game on Wednesday, September 24 in a 7:00 p.m. game start.  The Wildcats are off until Saturday, September 27 when they travel to Suffolk in a 7:30 p.m. game time.
