MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team defeated Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Salve Regina, 2-1 in double overtime, on Saturday evening.  The Colonels improved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the CCC.  The Seahawks fell to 2-3-1 and 0-1 in the CCC.

The first half ended scoreless with each team's goalkeepers playing solid between the pipes.  Curry's senior netminder Nick Barber (Pittsfield, Mass.) made six saves while Salve's sophomore netminder Daniel Stern (Kings Park, N.Y.) made five. Both teams were pretty even across the board.  Salve held a slight advantage in most stats.  The Seahawks finished with nine shots, six on goal, five saves, six fouls and four corners.  The Colonels had eight shots, five on net, six saves, six fouls and one corner.

Each team had scoring chances to start the final frame.  It wasn't until 13:54 into the half that Salve took the 1-0 lead.  Junior Alex Wasilewsi (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) dribbled the ball alone past two Curry defenders and one-timed it into the back of the net past Barber.  The Seahawks continued to control the half but the Colonels kept fighting and with just 6:35 remaining they evened the score at one apiece. Sophomore Tim Stein (Smithfield, R.I.) sent classmate Matt Cotnoir (Longmeadow, Mass.) a pass from the right hand corner of the field while Cotnoir waited patiently in front of the net.  Once the ball was sent Cotnoir tapped it in over the head of Johnson.  Neither team was able to earn the game-winner in regulation which sent them into sudden death overtime.

After 90 minutes of play, the Colonels finished with 18 shots, eight on net, 20 saves, 17 fouls, one corner and four offsides. The Seahawks finished with 31 shots, 20 on net, 10 fouls, six corners and two offsides.

Curry earned their first conference game of the season when Stein received a pass from Cotnoir in the 118:45 minute. The Colonels had the ball in the 18 meter box and were able to get the goaltender off his line for the game-winning score.

Barber finished with 20 stops in the win.  For Salve, Johnson made eight saves in net for the win.

Curry returns to action on Wednesday, September 18 when they host Fitchburg State at 7:00 p.m.  Salve hosts UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, September 17 in a 4:30 p.m. game start.
