Men's Soccer Falls to Johnson & Wales 1-0 in Season Opener

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University men's soccer team played the first ever game under the lights at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Outdoor Athletic Complex with a 1-0 victory against Curry in a non-conference contest on Saturday evening.

Johnson & Wales got on the board first when junior Dustin Hughes (Holden, Mass.) buried a throw in from junior Kyle Metz (St. James, N.Y.) into the top right corner of the net to give the Wildcats the 1-0 lead.  JWU held the one goal lead heading into halftime.

In the second half, Curry controlled the action and held a 15-3 advantage in shots for the stanza.  The visiting Colonels had several scoring opportunities, including a pair of shots that hit off the crossbar.  It would not be enough though as JWU held on for the 1-0 victory.

Junior Ryan Dzierzawski (Oakland, Mich.) made seven stops for JWU while senior Nick Barber (Pittsfield, Mass.) had four stops for Curry.

With the victory Johnson & Wales improves to 1-0 while Curry falls to 0-1 on the year.  The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, September 4th when they travel to Wentworth for a non-conference contest, starting at 7:00 p.m. The Colonels host Wheelock College on September 4 at 7:00 p.m.
