Men's Soccer Shuts Out Coast Guard, 2-0, to Earn Their Sixth Victory of the Season

MILTON, Mass.- Curry College defeated Coast Guard Academy, 2-0, in men's soccer action on Wednesday evening in Milton.  With the win, the Colonel's improve to 6-2 overall. The Bears fell to 3-3 on the season.

The Colonels got on the board first at the 26:45 minute mark in the opening frame.  Senior Devin Sadlers (Somerset, Mass.) took a shot outside of the 20-yard line and the ball soared past the Bear’s senior goalkeeper, Will Leffler (Daytona Beach, Fla.), and into the back of the net.  Despite slightly outshooting Curry 11-9, Coast Guard was unable to tie the match before the first half came to an end.  Just three of their 11 shots landed on net.  Senior goalkeeper for the Colonels, Nick Barber (Pittsfield, Mass.) was solid between the pipes coming up with all three stops. 

Both teams battled each other back and forth in the second half with Curry leading the shots by just one with 17 and Coast Guard with 16.  Both netminders came up with big saves to keep Curry ahead by one.  It wasn’t until 20 seconds left in regulation that the Colonels tallied the insurance goal for the 2-0 victory. Senior Nick Lawless (Hull, Mass.) received a through ball that got past the Bears’ defense from classmate Eric Guglielmello (Paxton, Mass.) who earned the assist. 

The Colonels finished with a game total of 26 shots, 15 on net, 12 saves, one offside, and five corner kicks.  The Bears finished with a game total of 27 shots, 12 on net, 13 saves, four offsides, and seven corner kicks.

For Curry, Barber earned the win in net making 12 stops.  Leffler received the loss for Coast Guard making 13 saves. 

The Colonels will host Wentworth on Saturday, September 22, for a 1:30 p.m. Commonwealth Coast Conference contest. Coast Guard will host WPI on Saturday, September 22, for a 1:00 p.m. game start.
