Men's Soccer Falls to Nichols College, 3-1, in Conference Opener

DUDLEY, Mass. – First-year Alex Geas (Somers, Conn.) collected a season-high 14 saves as Nichols defeated Curry, 3-1, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference men’s soccer match on Saturday afternoon. Both teams now sport 4-2 records on the season while the Bison are 2-0 in CCC action and the Colonels begin conference play at 0-1.

Sophomore Nick Gilman (Longmeadow, Mass.) put Curry on the board in the 19th minute as the Colonels converted one of their four corner kick opportunities of the half. Just under eight minutes later sophomore Phil Mitto (Windsor, Conn.) netted the equalizer with an unassisted marker. Nichols took a 2-1 lead into halftime as first-year Donny Whittle (Ellington, Conn.) one-timed a cross from senior Scott Coderre (Thompson, Conn.) in the 42nd minute. The Bison doubled up the visitors 14-7 on shots and had five corner kick chances.

Curry senior Devin Sadlers (Somerset, Mass.) had a chance to even the match at 71:15 but a diving Geas made a diving save to preserve the 2-1 Bison lead. Coderre went on to setup rookie Tiago Prazeres (West Hartford, Conn.) for the final tally of the match at 80:50. Curry led the Bison 9-7 on shots while Nichols had a 4-2 corner kick advantage. Geas improved to 4-2 on the season as Curry senior Nick Barber (Pittsfield, Mass.) (1-2) made seven stops in the defeat.
